Job Summary:
To perform microbiological testing, oversee the activities of the Q.C. laboratory, assist with the HACCP, Food Safety & Food Safety Management systems and Environmental activities required by IFF.
Job Scope:
This Job Description defines the Microbiological, Food Safety and Quality Control duties of this position. The incumbent will be responsible for running the microbiological lab as well as supervising 3 analysts and 1 QA administrator.
Key Responsibilities:
To conduct all routine microbiological analysis as stipulated on product, in-process and raw material specifications.
To ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the running of the QC/Micro laboratories as per requirements of the SGS LAB Approval Stds scheme
To evaluate results obtained through all testing (micro and analytical) and to enter results into SAP and take appropriate Usage decision for tested material.
To discuss out of specification results with colleagues and the QA Manager in order to assign appropriate status to non-conforming product.
To calibrate micro equipment and to ensure that analytical laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated so that reliable results are obtained and reported.
To maintain specifications on SAP and to ensure all new products are existing on SAP and linked to the correct plan of testing.
To participate in the factory Hygiene programme by performing routine environmental testing and advise and train the factory personnel on cleaning and hygiene matters. To enter all ESP results on share point and use the NOUCA - Notice of Unusual Occurrences and Corrective Actions for all unusual micro challenges and report on the share point for all products.
To perform daily GMP audits in all manufacturing department and communicate the entire audit with relevant departmental supervisors.
To perform Hygiene inspections and participate in the duties of the Food Safety Committee, take minutes of the meeting and to assist in the planning and performing of internal ISO audits.
To be actively involved with written Non Conformances and Customer Complaints, to monitor them and complete relevant corrective actions that may be required ensuring that notifications are effectively closed off. To use the 5 WHY RCA for all non-conformances and the 8 D format where required.
To raise appropriate Internal Non Conformances for out of spec product or process, and trend them.
To investigate and monitor customer complaints as well as channel communication with regards to complaints via Customer Services Dept. Trend and report the customer complaints during the monthly management review.
To attend Open Orders meetings and communicate outcome thereof to QA Manager and Lab Staff
To monitor and control customer returned product
To participate in Internal ISO 9001 /FSSC 22000 Audits
To generate scrap notes for products that need to be discarded and to ensure that these will be discarded in a legally required manner by contacting appropriate waste company and trend the scrap value on a monthly basis and trend the reasons.
To participate in HACCP, Foods Safety, Food Safety Management systems, and the maintenance of the FSSC 22000 system and participate in Environmental aspects as required.
To participate and be an active member of the HACCP Team and update the HACCP plans as required.
To perform any other reasonable and lawful duties as required by the company

Required Experience
Tertiary Education as Food Technologist or Microbiologist (minimum 3 Year degree / equivalent)
Experience in the field as microbiologist and analytical technician, with a working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and Laboratory audits standards.
At least 5 yearsβ experience as a microbiologist in the food/dairy industry, experience in analytical analysis and well trained tasting skills.
At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a lab environment.
Experience in a large business high volume and ability to work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision
Previous involvement and auditing experience in an ISO environment.
